Become a UGC creator brands can find and book
You do not need a large following to become a UGC creator. You need a clear look on camera, a few strong portfolio clips, a rate card brands can read in seconds and a reliable way of delivering on time. This guide covers the requirements, the gear, how to build a portfolio, how to set your rates inside the platform bands and how to get booked on UgcModels, where brands search the roster and pick creators themselves.
What a UGC creator actually does
A UGC creator films short videos and takes photos of products in the style of a real customer, then delivers the files to the brand. The brand runs them as ads, on product pages or on its own accounts. You are paid for the content and the license, not for posting to your audience. If you want the full background first, read what a UGC creator is.
The formats brands order
- Testimonial to camera.
- Unboxing and first impressions.
- Product demo with face and hands.
- Voiceover over product footage.
- Hands only close shots.
- Before and after for non medical products.
- Photo set for listings and product pages.
- Screen recorded app demo with your voice.
You do not have to offer every format. Brands search by format, so a narrow, well executed list beats a long list with weak examples.
Age and identity
Every creator on UgcModels is 21 or older. Before a profile goes live, we verify your ID. This protects you and the brands, and it is a hard rule with no exceptions. Your age is never shown as a number. Brands see an age band (21 to 29, 30 to 39 or 40+) so they can cast the right on-camera type.
What you need to start
- A recent smartphone that films in 4K or at least sharp 1080p.
- A window or a simple light, so your face is evenly lit.
- A clip on or small shotgun microphone for clean sound.
- A tripod or phone stand.
- One or two tidy settings you can film in regularly, such as a kitchen, bathroom, desk or car.
- A simple editing app to trim, add captions and export in 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 and 16:9.
What you do not need
You do not need a following, an agent, a studio or paid software. Brands are looking at how you deliver on camera and how well the clip is lit and recorded.
Think like a casting director
Your profile is a comp card. Brands filter the roster by niche, on-camera type, age band, setting, platform and rate, so every field you fill in decides whether you appear in a search. Be specific. A setting list of kitchen, bathroom and car is more useful to a brand than a vague note that you can film anywhere.
Fields that get you found
| Field | What to put |
|---|---|
| Niches | Two to four categories you actually use, such as skincare, pets or tech |
| On-camera type | How you come across, for example calm and expert or upbeat and casual |
| Settings | Rooms and places you can film in reliably |
| Gear | Camera, light and microphone you own |
| Languages | Every language you can deliver natural voiceover in |
| Platforms | TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Meta feed ads, Amazon listing, product page |
| Turnaround | What you can reliably hit, the standard is 5 business days |
Write a short bio for buyers
Two sentences are enough. Say what you film, where and for whom. Skip life stories and hashtags. A performance marketer reads dozens of cards in a session.
Quality beats quantity
Three to six strong clips beat twenty average ones. Each clip should show one format clearly, open with a real hook and be filmed in a setting listed on your comp card. Read our guide to the UGC portfolio for layouts that work.
No brand deals yet
Film spec content with products you already own and like. Treat each spec clip like a paid order. Write a short brief for yourself, film three hook options and deliver a clean 9:16 cut. Do not claim a brand relationship you do not have, and do not use logos in a way that suggests the brand hired you.
A portfolio plan for your first week
- Day one, a 15 s product demo of something in your kitchen.
- Day two, a 30 s testimonial about a product you use every day.
- Day three, a hands only set for a gadget or beauty product.
- Day four, a photo set of 5 in natural light.
- Day five, three alternative hooks for your best clip.
Your rate card inside the platform bands
On UgcModels you set your own rate inside platform rate bands, and you keep 100 percent of your posted rate. The brand pays a separate platform fee on top. Bands keep pricing clear for buyers and stop a race to the bottom.
| Deliverable | Platform rate band |
|---|---|
| 15 s clip | USD 100 to 200 |
| 30 s clip | USD 150 to 300 |
| 60 s clip | USD 200 to 450 |
| Photo set of 5 | USD 120 to 250 |
| Hook variant | USD 25 to 50 each |
| Raw footage add-on | USD 40 to 100 |
How to choose your number
Start in the lower half of each band while your portfolio is new, and move up as you deliver orders on time with few revisions. Price the work you are slow at higher, not lower. A 60 s demo with scripting takes far longer than a 15 s clip.
Usage rights add to your pay
Organic use is included in your rate. When a brand licenses the content for paid ads, the order adds 30 percent for 3 months, 60 percent for 12 months or 100 percent for a perpetual license. You do not negotiate this by email, it is a field on every order and it lands in the rights record. More detail on UGC usage rights.
How brands find you
Brands search the casting book, shortlist creators and send a brief. You can also receive casting calls from brands that added you to a shortlist. You do not pitch for every job, which leaves your time for filming.
Deliver like a pro
- Read the brief twice and ask questions before you film, not after.
- Film more hook options than requested and send the best ones.
- Export the exact aspect ratios listed in the order.
- Name files clearly with the product and the hook number.
- Answer revision notes quickly and politely.
How you get paid
The brand funds the order before you start. After you deliver, the brand approves it or asks for a revision. Payment is released to you after approval, or automatically after 5 days without a response from the brand. You never chase an invoice.
Avoid these early
- A portfolio of clips that are too long and start slowly.
- Settings on the comp card that do not appear in any clip.
- Rates far below the band to win a first order, which then feel impossible to raise.
- Promising a turnaround you cannot keep.
- Ignoring sound quality.
